SÃO TOMÉ E PRÍNCIPE
São Tomé and Príncipe is an African country located in the Gulf of Guinea. Without any land borders, it is made up of two main islands and several small islands. It occupies a total area of 1,001 km2 and has around 204 thousand inhabitants. It is a young country, where 62% of the population is under 24 years old and only 2.8% is over 65 years old. Around 2/3 of the population lives below the poverty line, with high infant mortality rates and a high risk of contagion from infectious diseases. With a poor economy based on agricultural production, the country has been facing difficulties in reducing dependence on imports and leveraging potential economic sectors, such as tourism and oil exploration.
The islands were occupied by Portuguese explorers from 1470 onwards, being used as a warehouse for the slave trade. Political independence occurred in 1975 and since then the country has been organized as a semi-presidential and multi-party democratic republic. Its main language is Portuguese, spoken by around 98% of the population.
How we operate
MT28 supports this missionary work, which began with the sending of Pastor Bruno and his family, by the Church in Belo Horizonte in 2012. He and his wife cooperated with the expansion of the Kingdom of God, for ten years in that country. Fulfilling our Lord's Great Commission, this family preached the Gospel of the Kingdom of God, winning and caring for new disciples. The church consolidated there bears fruit in the transformation and restoration of families, learning to live according to the principles of the Kingdom of God.
Missionary work also involves the effort to give dignity to families living in situations of immense poverty. Therefore, the work initiated by Bruno includes supporting local brothers in the development of solidarity economy and micro-entrepreneurship projects, which have expanded work and income opportunities on the Island of São Tomé. Some of the projects already developed are: vegetable garden, farm, trade in sugarcane juice, honey production, artisanal production of backpacks and bags.
Be an MT28 partner and help the missionaries and brothers of São Tomé and Príncipe to preach the word of the Kingdom of God in Africa. Missionary work has been generating transformation in people's lives, leading more people to know and experience the saving grace of Jesus; and also in the fight against poverty, violence, abuse and abandonment of women and children through the propagation of our Lord's teachings and through the decisive action of the missionaries who, with compassion and pity, have been donating their lives for the benefit of these joyful people and receptive.
